The lead up to Chinese New Year was busy with a lot of family photography shoots. Some were in the studio while others were on location. This time we had a combination of both studio and garden.

Over Chinese New Year we covered a wonderful wedding in KL. We all started off at the Majestic Hotel which is simply beautiful. The wedding cars were a classic Rolls Royce and a Bentley which both wafted the wedding couple to SFX church in Petaling Jaya for their wedding ceremony. We then went to the Lake Gardens for portraiture and I would have to say the Fujifilm X-T1 paired with the Fuji 56mm APD 1.2 is simply stunning as a light weight portrait combination. It seemed I couldn’t take aView full post »
Tiffany was visiting from a long stint overseas and asked if I could join her and her friends for a reunion lunch come party at the Thai restaurant Kompassion in Damansara Kim. So I did.

I was asked to shoot an “Anti-Valentines Day” singles get together at Happer’s Bar and Pub in Damansara Jaya near the Atria shopping Mall for Matchzsticks on Valentines day. It was a fun event and lots of singles got together to meet old friends and make new ones. Shooting was fairly challenging as it was mostly lit by candle light. Due to this most of the photos below were shot between ISO 6,000 and 10,000 using the Fuji X-T1 with 56mm APD F1.2 and a Canon 5DMk3 with a 24-70View full post »
Valentines Day 2015. CY Hiew was blessed with a lovely Valentines Day combination celebration at the Clark ballroom in the Le Meridien hotel. It was his 80th birthday as well as 50th Wedding Anniversary with his lovely wife. The event was organized by his children and they blessed their father by displaying his milestones for his guests to enjoy. One of the highlights was the family tree, tracing the family lineage back 50 generations (800 years) to the Song dynasty.

Natalie’s 1st Birthday was held at pool side at the Westin hotel and featured family, friends, ice cream (Yummy!), birthday treats and a balloon sculpting clown. It was a fun and relaxed afternoon. Later we did some family portraits pool side. This was also my first experience with the new Fuji 56mm APD f1.2. Unlike Canon’s 85mm f1.2 this lens inspires confidence because it focuses faster than the Canon, and is almost always in sharp focus.

I have started doing underwater photography in pools recently. It has been a long time coming as I have wanted to do it for years. Here is my first attempt and I would have to say both my model and I really enjoyed the session. It’s now her Facebook banner and profile photo so I know she was more than happy. If you are interested in having a series of underwater photos taken let me know and we can proceed to plan a session together. I look forward to hearing from you soon.

This is part of an underwater shoot in which two ladies assisted me as models. One of them, pictured in this series of images, wanted to have her pregnancy recorded. I shoot pregnancy photos but have been wanting to do something quite different from what is being offered in Kuala Lumpur and Petaling Jaya at the moment. Shooting pregnancy portrait photography underwater was a relaxing and cool (pun intended) thing to do. I hope you enjoy the photos I am including below.

I got one the first Nikon D750 bodies that came into Malaysia. I loved it. Then we heard bout the flare issues. Well I was hit. Bright lighting from certain angles entered the mirror box and played merry havoc with the images. Lens used was the Nikkor 85mm 1.8G. Nikon were good enough to implement repairs on the body and I am happy to say that it no longer flares. But at the time…WOW!!

Razli and Llis wedding was celebrated in both Kunak and Tawau, towns in Sabah, East Malaysia. The first evening was the traditional henna night in Lli’s kampong and included a karaoke and some of the best satay I have ever enjoyed. The following morning we went to the local Masjid (mosque) for the wedding ceremony, followed in the evening with a bersanding ceremony and dinner at the Promenade hotel in Tawau.

Jared and Marianna contacted me 3 days before their wedding ceremony to ask whether I was free to cover their wedding. Yes 3 days! How does that happen? Romantic story. Jared is originally from Malaysia , and was visiting relatives back here with his parents and siblings along with his Russian fiance Marianna, when the suggestion was made to have their wedding ceremony brought forward so all of the local relatives including his aging grandmother could attend. And so it happened!

Kimberley and Nicholas had their wedding at the Sunway Resort Hotel and Spa. Consisting of a Christian wedding ceremony, tea ceremony and then dinner. We were shooting with the Canon 5DMk3, Sony A7, and Nikon D750 cameras. We are brand agnostic, but at this wedding I discovered the D750 has an absolutely phenomenal exposure range.

Indian Muslim weddings share a mix of several cultural heritages which are familiar to Muslims, Hindus and Sikh customs. Always very colourful and full of the festivities that I love to shoot. These photos cover the engagement, Sangeet, wedding and final wedding banquet at the Mandarin Oriental Hotel in central Kuala Lumpur, right next to the KLCC.
I hope you love them!

A couple of days ago I went out for a model shoot with my Fujifilm X-T1 coupled with the 56mm F1.2 lens attached. Both the camera and my model Jane were a pleasure to work with. I have been using the Fujifilm X-T1 alongside my larger Nikon and Canon SLRs at more and more weddings. It is a very light weight piece of kit. The big plus with Fuji cameras is the built in Astia, Velvia and black and white filter simulations. These were mostly shot as Astia.

We covered a wonderful Persian Wedding at the Four Seasons Langkawi complete with honey and sugar cone ceremonies. It was very intimate and tasteful. Just how I love weddings to be. I have included over 100 photos from this wedding for your pleasure. Cameras used at this wedding were the Canon 5Dmk3, Fuji X-T1 and XM1, and the Nikon 610. We like being equal opportunity photographers 🙂

What is better than one graduation? TWO of course!! This was originally going to be Eric’s Graduation from Taylors University college but since his sister was back from studying medicine in Kursk the family decided to do two Graduation Photoshoots together. As you can see we had a lot of fun. I like joking with families to help them relax in front of the camera. As you can see from the samples below they received a great photo shoot.

Kriya and Theena’s temple wedding was last week. Now it’s time to party! They held their wedding dinner banquet at the Prosper Resort in Morib. Prosper Resort is on the beach front and next to Impian hotel. The Impian shows up on the GPS, Prosper Resort may not, hence I mention it. The celebrations kicked off with cake cutting and fireworks, featured lots of dancing, great food and rounded off with group photos.

For years, I’ve been known as a wedding photographer but what people don’t know is that many of my couples go on to grow their families and when they need great birthday or family portraits, guess who they call? I love shooting kids…every shot is different and every shot tells a story. Call me to book a session if you want some great photos of your kids and family that tell a story or capture a memory. Pricing starts from an extremely affordable RM300 for shoots in the studio.View full post »
This set of pre wedding portraits were taken at the Aloft hotel in KL Sentral. The Aloft Hotel is a really nice location for weddings and one of the really interesting features of the hotel is that the wedding couple can drive their wedding car right up and INTO the ballroom. Cool or what?

Tengku Bahar Idris and Mayuko Yoshida
Tengku Badris and I met up to discuss his upcoming wedding back in September 2013. Career wise, he started as a news photojournalist and is currently a news editor with Agence France-Presse. He wanted unobtrusive photojournalism for his wedding to Mayuko in Negeri Sembilan.
On the day there were close to 40 overseas wedding guests from all over the world. many of whom were also photojournalists which made me quip to the groom when their coach rolledView full post »
“When you start planning your wedding, you enter into a whole new world that can come with a shockingly high price tag. It’s natural to look for places to cut corners, but here are some facts to consider before hiring an amateur photographer for your wedding day.
1. The number one regret of couples after the wedding is not investing more money in a photographer.
When the wedding is over, all you have left are your photographs. Unfortunately, it’s not until AFTER the wedding that mostView full post »
Jaclyn and Michael’s wedding was held in the Roman Catholic Church of the Holy Spirit, Greenlane, Penang. It was a smaller wedding but loads of fun as everyone knew each other. Jaclyn had a beautiful dress as you can see in her portraits. The other nice touch was on her shoes in the very first photo below. Very cute 🙂
The portraits were mostly conducted at the very crowded Batu Ferringhi Beach. (Some claim it is where “First Contact” originally happened 🙂 ). Lots ofView full post »

I was left floored by this perceptive question
“Do you cry at weddings?” The question floored me. On Thursday while we were shooting sports equipment one of the fitness trainers come models asked me what I normally shoot. When I said “weddings” she said it must be a lot of fun (and it is!) and immediately asked THE question. I am not often speechless but this really made me stop and think. For me, weddings ARE about the emotion of the day and then it hit me rightView full post »

Stormy day at the end of the season on Redang
I went to Pulau Redang for a Scuba diving trip last weekend. These photos are taken with the iPhone so saturation, sharpness and quality are a bit “Applely”. Beautiful flowers at the church in Pekanbaru, Indonesia
Just back yesterday from covering a church wedding in Pekanbaru, Sumatra, Indonesia. Saw lots of friends from City Harvest Church in Subang Jaya as most of the friends in attendance know the bride and groom from their student days studying in Sunway/Taylors colleges. Pastor Kevin from City Harvest Subang was in attendance and made mention that it was the biggest reunion of the Indonesian contingent from City Harvest. All the old leadersView full post »
This is going to be a fun post. Last Sunday’s wedding in Kajang. Chinese tea ceremonies run the whole gamut of emotions. Sometimes they are just outrageously fun! This was certainly one of them. I strongly believe weddings should be F-U-N. In this case the traditional Chinese Tea ceremony was an opportunity for some early morning hijinks in the form of Wine, Brandy, Coffee mix and some outrageously large beer jugs! Well, I will let the photos speak for themselves. Fantastic.
