Wedding at Carcosa Seri Negara Kuala Lumpur

Wedding Dinner at the Carcosa Seri Negara

Ming and Ezane’s wedding was held at the luxury hotel Carcosa Seri Negara in the heart of  Kuala Lumpur.  The hotel consists of two mansions dating from colonial times. They were the residence of the British Governor General and Queen Elizabeth has previously stayed there, making it a fairly exclusive place to hold a wedding. The name Carcosa Seri Negara is given to describe both venues as one building is named “Carcosa”, whilst the other is the “Seri Negara.” ManyView full post »

Romantic Portraits at the Avillion Port Dixon

Tyler and Chin Vens pre-wedding portraits were taken at the Avillion in Port Dixon using black and white film. This was 2005 and the industry was in the middle of changing over from digital to film based photography. Film has a magical romantic quality all of its own. Please note the following images have been transferred from my old site when we were all “Internet load speed” compromised. That’s a fancy way of saying that they are of lower resolution than more recent weddings.View full post »

Peter and Dianne’s Renewal of vows in St Andrews Church and Dinner at the Carcosa Seri Negara

I know Peter and Dianne from Calvary Church in Damansara Heights (now relocated to the Calvary Convention Centre in Bukit Jalil). They wanted to do a renewal of vows and opted for St Andrews Church in Raja Chulan. An officiant flew up from Singapore to do the rites as they are done back in Peters home town. Regarding the standing on chairs and kissing….it’s a traditional thing. 🙂 The black and whites were shot on Ilford film hence the “sand-grain” look. Digital camerasView full post »

Montage Wedding Album for Cheryl and Jinhun

Old Traditions Made New: Like most weddings we shoot the bride and groom had FUN!  Cheryl and Jin’s wedding started as a traditional Chinese wedding, complete with bargaining and tea ceremony, progressed to wedding portraiture at the Sheraton imperial, and then on into a dinner and party.  As always, the photography for the portraiture was done on the wedding day. We schedule about an hour for formal during the day, either in your home or at the hotel venue. This not only saves youView full post »

“My mother in law didn’t understand why I changed my wedding date to get Grant to cover our special day. Once she saw his photos she knew why!” Anna Lee is the co-owner and partner of That Special Occasion, as well as a good friend of mine and I was very please to be asked to photograph her wedding in 2002. Discreet wedding photographer

Tips for Capturing a Wedding Discreetly without being a Distraction

I was asked recently by another photographer to write a post about one of the distinguishing features of my own particular shooting style. That is, how to capture a wedding discreetly, without being a distraction to the proceedings. I think we need to examine why this is important, as well as the factors which enable you to be discreet. I have been shooting weddings for nearly 25 years, and so I have managed to think this through a fair bit. Also with my corporate work I shoot on set whileView full post »

A Wedding in Saint Barnabas Klang and Wedding reception at the KL Sentral Hilton

Annie and Andre’s wedding was a split affair between the traditional Bidayuh wedding in Kuching, Sarawak and dinner at the Hilton in KL Sentral. I only covered the Kuala Lumpur side, which included a church wedding at Saint Barnabas church in Klang. The decor at the Hilton was stunning. Really fine affair with everyone dressed up for a fantastic evening out. You cannot have a Bidayuh wedding without the traditional Tuak. It is called a rice wine but in reality it is much more like Sake orView full post »

Why hire a professional wedding photographer vs amateur

The real cost of hiring a cheapest photographer. Starts with “P” and rhymes with “Rain

“When you start planning your wedding, you enter into a whole new world that can come with a shockingly high price tag.  It’s natural to look for places to cut corners, but here are some facts to consider before hiring an amateur photographer for your wedding day. 1. The number one regret of couples after the wedding is not investing more money in a photographer. When the wedding is over, all you have left are your photographs.  Unfortunately, it’s not until AFTER the wedding that mostView full post »

Wedding at the Holy Spirit Church, Greenlane, Penang and banquet at the Park Royal Batu Ferringhi

Jaclyn and Michael’s wedding was held in the Roman Catholic Church of the Holy Spirit, Greenlane, Penang.  It was a smaller wedding but loads of fun as everyone knew each other. Jaclyn had a beautiful dress as you can see in her portraits. The other nice touch was on her shoes in the very first photo below. Very cute 🙂 The  portraits were mostly conducted at the very crowded Batu Ferringhi Beach. (Some claim it is where “First Contact” originally happened 🙂 ). Lots ofView full post »

As you can see it was a lot of fun! Originally posted 2012-10-06 14:26:22.View full post »
