Wedding at Carcosa Seri Negara Kuala Lumpur

Wedding Dinner at the Carcosa Seri Negara

Ming and Ezane’s wedding was held at the luxury hotel Carcosa Seri Negara in the heart of  Kuala Lumpur.  The hotel consists of two mansions dating from colonial times. They were the residence of the British Governor General and Queen Elizabeth has previously stayed there, making it a fairly exclusive place to hold a wedding. The name Carcosa Seri Negara is given to describe both venues as one building is named “Carcosa”, whilst the other is the “Seri Negara.” ManyView full post »

Romantic Portraits at the Avillion Port Dixon

Tyler and Chin Vens pre-wedding portraits were taken at the Avillion in Port Dixon using black and white film. This was 2005 and the industry was in the middle of changing over from digital to film based photography. Film has a magical romantic quality all of its own. Please note the following images have been transferred from my old site when we were all “Internet load speed” compromised. That’s a fancy way of saying that they are of lower resolution than more recent weddings.View full post »

Dushen and Sherri’s Wedding in Ubud Bali

Dushen and Sherri had a huge multi day wedding back in Kuala Lumpur, but had a smaller intimate and really fun filled wedding in Ubud Bali. These photos tell part of their story. Technical: Camera used was the Canon 20D with the 17-40L, 50mm 1.4 and 85 F1.8. St Andrews Church Raja Chulan exterior

Peter and Dianne’s Renewal of vows in St Andrews Church and Dinner at the Carcosa Seri Negara

I know Peter and Dianne from Calvary Church in Damansara Heights (now relocated to the Calvary Convention Centre in Bukit Jalil). They wanted to do a renewal of vows and opted for St Andrews Church in Raja Chulan. An officiant flew up from Singapore to do the rites as they are done back in Peters home town. Regarding the standing on chairs and kissing….it’s a traditional thing. 🙂 The black and whites were shot on Ilford film hence the “sand-grain” look. Digital camerasView full post »

Montage Wedding Album for Cheryl and Jinhun

Old Traditions Made New: Like most weddings we shoot the bride and groom had FUN!  Cheryl and Jin’s wedding started as a traditional Chinese wedding, complete with bargaining and tea ceremony, progressed to wedding portraiture at the Sheraton imperial, and then on into a dinner and party.  As always, the photography for the portraiture was done on the wedding day. We schedule about an hour for formal during the day, either in your home or at the hotel venue. This not only saves youView full post »

traditional malay wedding using black and white film in Kuala lumpur

Jehan and Shariman’s Traditional Malay Wedding captured on black and white film

Jehan and Shariman’s traditional Malay wedding was shot on Black and White film and then scanned for this web site. It was a happy day for both of them and this is certainly apparent when you view the photos. Malaysia is a melting pot of foods and cultures and is one of the reasons I love living here. Traditions like Henna came from India and are commonplace at Malay weddings. The intricate patterns are quite something. The University of Maryland contacted me as they were keen on usingView full post »

Paul and Marissa’s Montage Wedding Album. Carcosa Seri Negara.

Anna from That Special Occasion’s Wedding Photography

“My mother in law didn’t understand why I changed my wedding date to get Grant to cover our special day. Once she saw his photos she knew why!” Anna Lee is the co-owner and partner of That Special Occasion, as well as a good friend of mine and I was very please to be asked to photograph her wedding in 2002. Digital SLRs were rare and pricey at that time, so we shot film. I used Ilford Delta 400 and 3,200 black and white film to take these images. Their wedding was celebratedView full post »

Renewal Lutheran Church Wedding of Patrick and Evelyn

“Hi Grant!!! I have downloaded all the beautiful pictures!! Love it! 🙂 Thank you!! Cheers! ~Evelyn” I LOVE getting this type of feed back and it is always nice to hear. Discreet wedding photographer

Tips for Capturing a Wedding Discreetly without being a Distraction

I was asked recently by another photographer to write a post about one of the distinguishing features of my own particular shooting style. That is, how to capture a wedding discreetly, without being a distraction to the proceedings. I think we need to examine why this is important, as well as the factors which enable you to be discreet. I have been shooting weddings for nearly 25 years, and so I have managed to think this through a fair bit. Also with my corporate work I shoot on set whileView full post »

Underwater pool photography with a Mermaid

I have been so busy with shoots that I thought I had better bring people up to speed with what I have been doing. This is from Fridays pool shoot with the wonderful “Queen Cobra” who was in town with her Mermaid tail.  I absolutely love shooting underwater however it’s really hard work with constant dives and adjustments to camera equipment. The renowned underwater model “Tarachin” was the brains behind the shoot and both ladies took turns in the pool, eventuallyView full post »

Family Studio Photographer Petaling Jaya PJ and KL

Family Photography in my PJ Studio

I have been asked by a number of people about family photography in my PJ studio, and so I decided to post up some shots from earlier today so people can see for themselves. I have chosen to go for a more modern look despite being asked fairly frequently for more traditional back grounds. People generally love the fresh clean look. Family shoots typically take about an hour, then they choose which photos they like the best which takes maybe 15 minutes or so. The whole process is fast andView full post »
